The Theater Teacher

The Theatre Teacher is a YouTube channel started by April Jane Hoag that focuses on Theatre education, dance, and student-teaching content. April Jane had an existing png that she had slightly altered to use as her logo, but she wasn’t happy with it, she felt it was too childish and didn’t fully like the colors she had chosen, so my goal was to create a logo and brand that she felt confident in, and then created a system of motion graphic elements from that branding.

Rebranding

By lengthening the aspect ratio of the masks, using sharper corners, and a narrower outline these masks are very similar to the original but feel much less youthful than the previous versions. To add some further texture, the typeface Gagalin was chosen to represent the handmade/artists aspect that goes into creating school theatre productions. The greens were shifted to more represent the Pacific NW where April Jane is located.

New & Improved

This was the original logo, the main concern was that it felt too elementary but April Jane wanted to keep the theatre masks as a central aspect, which made the main focus in altering the logo to appear less youthful as the target audience is working theatre teachers and college students studying theatre education.
